Composer, sound artist, performer, sound engineer and educator based in Reykjavik. He performs on modular synthesizers, electronics, theremin and various random instruments. He approaches sound using improvisation and listening and explores abstract sound, texture, noise and drone often in collaboration with others.
Jesper creates electroacoustic music, sound art, works for acoustic instruments as well as for experimental homemade instruments, performances, installations and more. His works for acoustic musical instruments often uses experimental animated musical notation or graphic notation and the works explore different spatial concepts and performance elements. His acoustic compositions have been performed internationally by the S.L.Á.T.U.R. collective, GP&PLS, Duo Harpverk, Ensemble Adapter, Ensemble U, Elektra Ensemble, The Icelandic Flute Ensemble, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Ilan Volkov, Katie Buckley, Ingólfur Vilhjámsson and Áshildur Haraldsdóttir at festivals including the Tectonics Festival, Nordlichter Biennale, NEXT Festival, OpenDays, Rainy Days, Summartónar, Raflost, Geiger, Sláturtíð, Dark Music Days and Nordic Music Days.
Working with electronic sound since the 1990’s he has in recent years been focusing on live performance on modular synthesizer systems. He performs both solo and in collaborations such as the ambient duo Harp & Arp (with harpist Katie Buckley), “modular synth meets Inuit drum dance” trio Resterne af Rigsfællesskabet (with Heðin Ziska Davidsen and Miké Thomsen) and experimental noise outfit Stormkrókur (with Páll Ivan frá Eiðum). Another important collaboration has been the Icelandic experimental composers collective S.L.Á.T.U.R. and various side projects associated with the collective.
He holds an MA in Music Technology from Aalborg University in Denmark and is an adjunct lecturer in new media composition at the Iceland University of the Arts as well as teaching electronic music at the Kópavogur School of Music.
